Grading the Big 5: Week 7 grade for Alabama's Jonathan Allen

Editor's note: analysts and former NFL scouts Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah will grade the performances of 5 top prospects each week of the 2016 season. Click the tabs above to see their Week 7 marks for each of the players.

Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama

Stats: 4 tackles (1 sack). (at Tennessee)
Skinny: Allen returned to Tuscaloosa for his senior season to prove to scouts that he can be an every-down player at the next level. With a strong performance against Tennessee in a marquee SEC tilt, the 6-foot-3, 293-pound defender continued to solidify his status as a top prospect by exhibiting an explosive combination of strength, power and first-step quickness as an edge player. He overwhelmed blockers with his athleticism and physicality. Although his pass-rushing partner (Tim Williams) was just as disruptive off the edge, Allen's contributions as a backside defender were a major factor in the Crimson Tide's stellar defensive effort. Considering how consistent Allen has played throughout the season, it's not a surprise scouts continue to rave about his upside and potential as a disruptive playmaker. -- Bucky Brooks
