LSU-Florida game postponed due to Hurricane Matthew

Florida's Saturday home game against LSU has been postponed due to the threat of Hurricane Matthew, the SEC announced on Thursday.

A new date for the game has not been set. The SEC stated in a release that it will "make every effort to find a scheduling solution with the possible movement of other games on the schools' schedules." Florida and LSU do not have a common open date.

"We had a very productive phone call today with a great spirit of cooperation between the universities' presidents and athletics directors and it became clear that the University of Florida could neither host nor travel to a game this weekend considering the circumstances," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey stated. "The developments of the hurricane in the last 24 hours, the projected magnitude of its impact and the unknown aftermath of this storm have resulted in this decision to seek another date to play the LSU-Florida game. We have to be sensitive to the possible imminent disruption to the state of Florida and in particular the Gainesville and surrounding area."

The Gators had been scheduled to host the game in Gainesville, Fla., at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, but the school began putting other options under consideration earlier this week when the storm began approaching South Florida with a track up the East Coast of the state.

The Miami Dolphins closed their facility on Thursday as they braced for the Category 4 storm. The storm is expected to reach eastern Florida beginning on Thursday night, per The Weather Channel.

Elsewhere in college football, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said Wednesday the Seminoles are considering adjusting their travel schedule for a Saturday road game at Miami, although UM has not announced any change to the scheduled 8 p.m. ET kickoff.

Here's a look at college football games that have been rescheduled due to the storm:

Charlotte at Florida Atlantic: The Owls have postponed the game, tentatively until Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.

Tulane at Central Florida: Tulane-UCF was rescheduled to Saturday, Nov. 5.

South Carolina State at Bethune-Cookman: BCC has postponed the game to a date not yet determined.

UMass at Old Dominion: ODU rescheduled its game to Friday night at 8 p.m. ET.
