Editor's note: This post was published in October prior to the LSU-Florida game that was initially scheduled for Oct. 8. The game was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew and was rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19.
Florida and LSU have a history of churning out next-level talent at defensive back, and the programs are home to some of the top DBs in the country again this year. LSU has studs like safety Jamal Adams and cornerback Tre'Davious White in its secondary, while Florida has two elite cornerbacks (Quincy Wilson and Teez Tabor). UF also has an oustanding safety prospect in Marcus Maye, who, unfortunately, suffered a season-ending broken arm last week. Who's the best DB in this game? I reached out to five NFL executives for their votes.
Executive 1: LSU S Jamal Adams
"Adams is one of my favorite players in the country. He can play high, low or cover in the slot. He's the ideal safety."
Executive 2: LSU S Jamal Adams
"Adams is a special player. He'll be a top-10 pick."
Executive 3: LSU CB Tre'Davious White
"White is a more complete player than (Florida's Teez) Tabor. I like (Jamal) Adams but I need to do more work on him. White has all of the tools: size, speed and ball skills."
Executive 4: Florida CB Quincy Wilson
"I think Wilson is the best corner in the country. (Teez) Tabor gets all of the hype but Wilson is better in every area."
Executive 5: LSU S Jamal Adams
"I love Adams. He's a better version of Eric Reid."
Summary: That's three votes for Adams and one apiece for White and Wilson.
Conclusion: I'm not surprised to see Adams garner so much support from these evaluators. He's a fantastic player and I enjoyed studying him this summer for a preseason scouting report. However, I was surprised that Tabor didn't receive any votes. He has ideal size and ball skills, but there is concern about his deep speed inside the scouting community. White and Wilson are generating a lot of buzz, and although he didn't get any votes, Maye, a senior safety, is also viewed as a Day One NFL starter.
