Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and a driver's license violation, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed to NFL.com.
The former second-round draft pick was arrested at 4:09 a.m. ET and was booked into Orient Road Jail in Tampa, Florida, at 6:24 a.m., a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Dept. spokeswoman said. Hours after his arrest, Seferian-Jenkins was waived by the Bucs.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Seferian-Jenkins was stopped for driving 75-80 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone and cutting off an FHP trooper with an improper lane change. He was also seen weaving back and forth before being pulled over, the FHP said.
The driver's license violation charge stems from Jenkins not having an ignition interlock device on his vehicle, a restriction from his previous DUI arrest in 2013, the FHP report stated.
It was a long summer for Seferian-Jenkins, who was booted from a Buccaneers practice by new coach Dirk Koetter for not knowing where to line up. He was replaced atop the team's depth chart by former undrafted free agent Cameron Brate. However, during a Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Seferian-Jenkins saw more snaps (34 to 33) than Brate for the first time this season, potentially signifying a turnaround for the versatile tight end.
Any comeback story has been placed on hold for now.
