Injury roundup: Eagles rule out Ertz, McKelvin for 'MNF'

Carson Wentz will be without his security blanket on Monday Night Football.

Eagles tight end Zach Ertz will be forced to sit out Monday's game against the Bears with a rib displacement suffered in Week 1, coach Doug Pederson said Saturday. Cornerback Leodis McKelvin is also slated to miss the proceedings with an ailing hamstring.

Neither player participated in practice all week. Pederson said Thursday that both remain "week-to-week" meaning their status for Week 3 against Pittsburgh is up in the air.

Ertz will be replaced by Trey Burton, who should play across from Brent Celek in Philly's two-tight end sets. Burton and Celek will have to replace Ertz's production from last week, when he caught six balls for 58 yards from Wentz in the rookie's debut, acting as his second-favorite target.

McKelvin's absence leaves Philadelphia with just three healthy cornerbacks: Nolan Carroll, Jalen Mills and Ron Brooks.

Here are the other injuries we're monitoring Saturday:

  1. Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller is listed as questionable to play against the Eagles on Monday. Fuller has been limited all week with a knee injury.
  1. The Chargers added guard Orlando Franklin to the injury report with a neck injury. He is questionable to play against the Jaguars.
  1. Trent Cole has been downgraded from doubtful to out. The Colts pass rusher did not travel with the team as he deals with a back injury.
  1. The Packers downgraded concussed cornerback Sam Shields from doubtful to out against the Vikings.
