Jay Ajayi ruled out as a non-injury scratch for Dolphins

Jay Ajayi won't be playing against the Seahawks.

According to the official Week 1 injury report, the Dolphins running back is a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Specific details surrounding Ajayi's situation are scarce, but NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that Ajayi didn't respond well to the challenge Arian Foster's arrival presented, and instead sulked through the preseason.

The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley reported that an unnamed Dolphins player said this week the running back was upset over his recent demotion behind Foster on the depth chart.

"If you let it get the best of you, it shows," the player told Beasley.

Ajayi entered the offseason as the presumed top back in Miami, but was quickly passed once Foster signed. Ajayi did not impress this preseason, yet was expected to retain a role in the offense given Foster's age and injury history.

Facing a stout Seahawks defense that has led the NFL in scoring D each of the last four seasons, the Dolphins will ride Foster heavily in the ground attack. Expect Gase to deploy a quick passing attack in lieu of an uninspiring set of backup runners.

Center Mike Pouncey is also not playing while still nursing a hip injury.
