While NFL teams were in the midst of cutting players Saturday, the Chicago Bears extended the contract of guard Kyle Long.
Long signed a four-year contract extension, the team announced. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the extension is worth $40 million, with $30 million in guarantees and $23 million fully guaranteed, per a source with knowledge of the deal.
The Bears exercised the fifth-year option on the 2013 first-round pick in April. Long was under contract for two more seasons prior to the extension.
The versatile Long has been the rock on the Bears' offensive line wherever he played. The No. 20 overall pick spent his first two years at guard before swinging to right tackle in 2015. He moves back to guard to open the 2016 season.
Long has been recently dealing with a shoulder injury.
The Bears' offensive line is littered with question marks entering the regular season, but Long won't be going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
