'Madden 17' will make additions to address Kaepernick

Everybody seems to have an opinion on Colin Kaepernick's decision to sit during the national anthem in protest. Why should we be surprised if a video game wants in?

A representative for EA Sports, the company behind the venerable Madden franchise, said Tuesday that Kaepernick's polarizing stance not to stand for the "Star-Spangled Banner" will be addressed in new commentary from Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis, the voices of Madden NFL 17.

"Kaepernick's decision will be briefly mentioned in-game, reflecting our commitment to authenticity in Madden NFL 17," a senior publicist for EA Sports said (via Gamespot.com). "Overall, our new commentary will mainly center around on-field performance, as well as major news like trades, free agency signings, and injuries."

The addition of the Kaepernick commentary is part of a Madden push to increase the verisimilitude of their "game broadcasts." Gaudin and Davis will make regular trips to the studio during the NFL season to record new lines that will then be added into the game.

We've come a long way from John Madden saying, "Where'd that truck come?" 37 times per game.
