Jalen Ramsey has taken his talents to Jacksonville, but there's another top-tier defensive back prospect in Tallahassee.

CFB 24/7 is marking the days to the start of the 2016 season by counting down the top 25 players in college football.

Derwin James is coming off a spectacular freshman season in which he ranked second on the Seminoles with 91 tackles. James enters 2016 as the No. 3 true sophomore in college football, according to NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein. James' outstanding college football debut season landed him on the watch lists for the Walter Camp Award and Jim Thorpe Award.

Pulling back the curtain on the vote

James earned votes from three of seven CFB 24/7 experts, with one top-five vote.

What some of our analysts are saying about James

"James is a name that keeps coming up when I talk to college coaches. He is extremely explosive and he makes plays all over the field." -- Daniel Jeremiah

"James lived up to expectations in his freshman season, pounding receivers that dared to come into his territory. And his athleticism means that the entire field is his territory." -- Chad Reuter

"The Seminoles' new version of Jalen Ramsey can't play cornerback, but like Ramsey, he's a versatile piece of the FSU secondary who is also highly effective as a blitzer and run defender." -- Chase Goodbread

Where do fans rank James?

After only one season with the Seminoles, the fans have taken notice of James. We asked Twitter users who they considered the best player in college football, and James finished 13th in the vote. That's impressive, but not surprising considering one ACC coach suggests James could be better than Ramsey.
