After awkward exchange with Urban Meyer, recruit picks USF

Ohio State's recruiting loss is ... South Florida's gain?

Believe it.

After backing out of a commitment to Ohio State because Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer failed to recognize him on a visit to the school, four-star recruit Bruce Judson has committed to the USF Bulls, per the Orlando Sentinel. Judson described his exchange with Meyer in May this way:

"... He asked me, 'Who are you?' I told him Bruce. He said, 'Oh, Bruce Judson from Florida. The speedy guy.' I was like, 'Yeah.' He said, 'I'm glad that you're on board and glad you got up here.' After that, I knew I was de-committing."

USF isn't exactly the kind of school Ohio State is used to losing to on the recruiting trail, but it certainly makes some geographical sense, as Judson is from Cocoa Beach, Fla.

He certainly looked at home at this USF camp:

For South Florida, Judson isn't just another recruit. He'll be a centerpiece of the Bulls' 2017 signing class. Whether Meyer's alleged lapse of memory comes back to haunt the Buckeyes remains to be seen, but for now Judson has a new destination.

It's certainly advisable for coaches to recognize the players they're recruiting. Former South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier lost out on one of college football's elite linebackers, Ohio State's Raekwon McMillan, under similar circumstances.
