Broncos reach out to Von Miller to open dialogue

The Denver Broncos and Super Bowl MVP Von Miller are talking contract again, with just 10 days to go before the July 15 deadline for franchise players to sign long-term deals.

Members of the team's brass, including general manager John Elway, reached out to Miller's representatives to open dialogue, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the situation.

Negotiations are not expected to begin in earnest until the deadline nears, per Rapoport, but the Broncos emphasized Miller's value to the organization and the importance of re-signing one of the NFL's premier defensive stars. By touching base this week, Denver's hope is that emotions are calm when talks grow more serious next week.

Back in early June, NFL Media's James Palmer reported that Miller had rejected a deal that would have made him the highest-paid defensive player in the league. More specifically, the sticking points have been guaranteed money and how much Miller stands to earn in the first three years of the deal.

If the two sides fail to reach an agreement by the collective bargaining agreement's July 15 deadline, Miller's options are to hold out or play the 2016 season on the $14.129 million franchise tag.
