Brandt: Ole Miss' talented freshman could be next great QB

In the 2016 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles each made massive trades in order to acquire the top two quarterbacks available, Jared Goff and Carson Wentz.

It remains to be seen if a current college football quarterback will emerge as a prospect so highly thought of that teams mortgage a handful of picks in order to secure that player in the draft. However, NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt has revealed a promising quarterback just entering college who just might have that potential.

Ole Miss already has a starting quarterback. Senior Chad Kelly -- the nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly -- is a preseason Heisman Trophy contender and among the next top quarterback draft prospects. While Kelly looks to build up his draft stock this season, Patterson will be waiting in the wings.

Patterson was a five-star-rated dual-threat quarterback by Rivals, and with that comes high expectations. But, being the next great college quarterback that NFL teams will be pining after? Was UCLA super sophomore Josh Rosen -- who coach Jim Mora said would have been the top pick in the 2016 draft had he been eligible -- considered?

The answer is yes.

While Patterson likely will receive little to no snaps this coming season, whatever on-field action he does experience moving forward will be under heavy surveillance.
