Dolphins finally add running back in Kenyan Drake

The Miami Dolphins might have been "comfortable" with their running back depth chart, but they were almost certain to add one in the draft. The 'Fins did so in the third round Friday night.

Miami tapped Kenyan Drake out of Alabama with the No. 73 overall pick.

Drake is a shifty, explosive back with speed and the ability to make defenders miss on the second level. The 6-foot-1 running back can provide home-run ability to the Dolphins backfield.

"You'll get some big plays and some negative plays," one scout told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "You can do a lot with this guy. Flush him out of the backfield; he's got really good hands. Looks like a big wideout."

Drake's skill set is a good complement to starter Jay Ajayi, especially on third downs as a change-of-pace back. He joins a backfield that currently includes Damien Williams, Jahwan Edwards, Daniel Thomas and Isaiah Pead.

Drake should also be in contention as a kick returner.

The Dolphins struck out on C.J. Anderson and chased Chris Johnson, only to be rebuffed. They finally hit one in Drake.
