Paul Soliai lands two-year deal with Carolina Panthers

An already stout Carolina defense is growing even stronger.

Former Atlanta Falcons defense tackle Paul Soliai is signing a two-year, $7 million contract with the Panthers, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source involved in the deal. The new agreement calls for $3 million in guarantees and $4 million in the first year.

One of the NFL's premier nose tackles during his prime with the Miami Dolphins, Soliai is a rotational run-plugger at this stage of his career.

He figures to work behind Carolina's disruptive defensive tackle tandem of Kawann Short and Star Lotulelei, concentrating on high-leverage situations on obvious running downs.

After adding Soliai and re-signing Charles Johnson to a cut-rate deal, the Panthers have ensured that the defensive line will remain a team strength in 2016.
