Trevathan agrees to 4-year, $28M deal with Bears

One by one, former Denver Broncos are latching on elsewhere.

Quarterback Brock Osweiler fled to Houston, defensive lineman Malik Jackson is a Jaguar and linebacker Danny Trevathan is set to sign a four-year deal with the Bears.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Chicago coach John Fox has lured away the player he drafted in Denver in 2012, per a source involved with the deal. The Bears later confirmed the deal.

Rapoport adds deal is worth roughly $28 million, according to a source involved with the deal.

It's a move that makes plenty of sense for both sides after Trevathan crowed about the Bears during Super Bowl Week, saying: "I believe I can fit in any scheme. Coach Fox is one of the guys that gave me the opportunity to showcase I can fit within the scheme. I'm sure it'll be there, I'm sure we'll end up talking."

Trevathan produced a strong season on tape at inside linebacker for Denver's Wade Phillips-led unit. Paired with Brandon Marshall, the duo finished the year as the NFL's fifth- and sixth-best players at their position, per Pro Football Focus.

A strong run-stopper, Trevathan projects as an immediate starter for Vic Fangio's 3-4 defense. Chicago has shown some interest in re-signing Shea McClellin and also has Christian Jones, John Timu and Lamin Barrow at inside linebacker. Trevathan, though, will play a major role in what the Bears hope to accomplish in 2016.
