Rashean Mathis is calling it quits.
After 13 NFL seasons, the cornerback told the Detroit Lions' official website that he has decided to retire.
"(It's been) an awesome 13 years," Mathis said. "And I think it's time for me to hang up the cleats. The lord has blessed me with a long career...I think it's time. It's time for me to hang up the cleats."
Mathis started 165 games over his 13 NFL seasons. The 35-year-old corner played his first 10 years in Jacksonville and was a stud when healthy. In 2006, Mathis was selected as a First-Team All-Pro corner.
Injuries marred the end of his stint with Jacksonville -- the city in which he was born. Wrote off by most as a downward-trending player on the wrong side of 30, Mathis signed with the Lions in 2013 and had three very productive seasons in Detroit.
A concussion ended the corner's season after just seven games in 2015.
"My last three years in Detroit have been amazing for me," Mathis said. "Being with (Jim) Caldwell these last two years, I couldn't ask for anything more."
Mathis finishes his career with 32 interceptions, 111 passes defensed and 647 tackles.
