Just so everyone knows, Tarvaris Jackson is hitting the free agent market.

The Seahawks' long-time backup plans to review his options instead of signing with the Seahawks before March 9, according to a report from 710 ESPN in Seattle. Jackson allegedly took less money to return to Seattle.

The report is strange in that Jackson did not sign with the Seahawks before free agency last year. The team inked him to a one-year deal in mid-June. Jackson, who is 32, earned $1.5 million to be a backup this past season. Did the market change that drastically this year?

Unless he is not happy in Seattle, and unless another team is beating down Jackson's door to compete for a starting job -- the Browns, Texans and Rams could all use a reliable passer -- it would seem to be the best situation for the former second-round pick. Many veterans are just hoping for a tenable working situation and a spot where they don't need to learn a new playbook. Pete Carroll is widely viewed as one of the best coaches in the league to play for.

But if Jackson knows something we don't about his market, this will be an important offseason for the Seahawks. The team will need to find a reliable, mobile backup for Russell Wilson -- which isn't easy to do.
