John Elway could have a franchise tag dilemma after the confetti stops falling on Super Bowl 50.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported the Broncos favor tagging Miller. According to sources, Denver plans to tag Miller and then try to work out a deal.
It's the obvious choice.
While Denver's quarterback situation enters the offseason in a precarious spot, there are still questions about Osweiler's future that could help keep the price down slightly -- even in a desert-dry market. There are zero questions about Miller's future as one of the most dominant edge rushers in the NFL.
If allowed to hit the open market, Miller likely would command a deal similar to the record contract Ndamukong Suh earned from the Miami Dolphins last year. With the salary cap set to jump and the dearth of pass rushers in the NFL, there would have been a bidding war for the former No. 2 overall pick and two-time All-Pro.
One reason Von Miller will get tagged: He wants to be the highest paid defensive player in football. Means Osweiler could hit the market thoâ Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 7, 2016
Dominant NFL teams need both a franchise quarterback and a pass rusher to knock the snot out of opposing quarterbacks. This offseason the Broncos will smartly prioritize keeping their QB basher wearing orange.
