University of Texas standing by Vince Young after DWI arrest

The University of Texas isn't cutting ties with former Longhorns and Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young after his arrest on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

A school spokesman stated on Tuesday that Young will continue to be an employee of UT. Young is an officer in the school's Division of Diversity and Community Engagement.

"Vince Young will continue to be an employee of The University of Texas at Austin," the spokesman stated, per the Dallas Morning News' Chuck Carlton. "We are working directly with Mr. Young to address the issues related to this situation, as we would with any employee."

Young issued an apology to those who look up to him and his employers via Facebook on Monday night.

Young was booked into jail early Monday morning and was released later that day. The arresting officer noted in the arrest affidavit that Young remained stopped at a green light for about 10 seconds and drifted from his lane before he was stopped. Young mumbled and slurred his speech and smelled strongly of alcohol, according to the officer.

The third overall pick of the Titans in the 2006 draft, Young arrived in Tennessee to great fanfare after leading Texas past USC for an epic national championship game victory to close out the 2005 season.

His pro career was a major disappointment, though, as he finished with more interceptions (51) than passing touchdowns (46). He spent five seasons with the Titans and one with the Eagles. He last played in an NFL game in 2011.
