Thomas Davis could play in Super Bowl 50 despite suffering a broken arm in Sunday's NFC Championship Game win.
The Carolina Panthers linebacker underwent surgery early Monday morning and coach Ron Rivera told reporters that Davis could play in two weeks.
"If it all goes well, it should be something he will be able to play with," Rivera said.
Rivera added that Davis will meet with the training staff this week to determine what steps the linebacker needs to take to get back on the field.
It's possible we could see Davis play in Super Bowl 50 with a large Rob Gronkowski-like brace on his injured arm.
Davis was hurt during the second quarter of the Panthers' 49-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The veteran linebacker held his arm as he walked off to the locker room, and was later seen on the sideline with his arm in a sling.
Getting Davis on the field in any capacity for the Super Bowl in two weeks against the Denver Broncos would be a huge lift for the Panthers. The veteran is an emotional leader as well as one of the best sideline-to-sideline tacklers in the NFL. The linebacking duo of Davis and Luke Kuechly is the best tackling tandem in the NFL.
Davis recorded 105 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 12 QB hits, four interceptions and four forced fumbles during the 2015 season. Before injury struck Sunday, Davis was all over the field, compiling six tackles, including two for a loss.
"I believe in our training staff," Davis said after Sunday's game. "I'll do everything in my power to be ready to go. I wouldn't miss the Super Bowl for the world. We've worked too hard to get to this point."
