The college-to-pro jump didn't work for the Philadelphia Eagles in the case of Chip Kelly, but that didn't keep the team from looking to the college ranks for Kelly's potential replacement.

The club pursued Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin at the outset of its search for a head coach, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Sumlin, after leading the Aggies to an 8-5 finish in 2015, has indicated he wants to stay at the college level, Rapoport reported.

Sumlin, 51, has long been viewed as a rising star in the coaching ranks, although Texas A&M has encountered some turmoil, dropping five of its final 8 games this season before seeing QBs Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray transfer from the program.

The Eagles will meet with former New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin on Monday, per Rapoport, and have already interviewed offensive coordinators Ben McAdoo (Giants) and Adam Gase (Bears), who was hired as the Dolphins' head coach on Saturday.
