TCU shocks Oregon in come-from-behind thriller

TCU matched the biggest comeback in bowl history Saturday with a 47-41 triple-overtime win over Oregon, recovering from a 31-0 halftime deficit in the Alamo Bowl.

Senior quarterback Bram Kohnhausen, in his only career start, rebounded from a miserable first half to complete 28 of 45 passes for 351 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and rushing for two more scores and 45 yards on 11 carries. Kohlhausen ran for an 8-yard touchdown in triple overtime for the winning points, and the TCU secondary broke up a fourth-down Oregon pass in the Ducks' triple-overtime turn to end the game.

Along with praise for Kohlhausen, TCU coach Gary Patterson also credited the Horned Frogs defense for a second-half shutout that allowed for the comeback.

"The key was we weren't going to let them run the football, and make them beat us with their arms," Gary Patterson told ESPN. "We fought and we got some stops."

TCU was without its top two offensive players in suspended quarterback Trevone Boykin and injured wide receiver Josh Doctson. Oregon lost quarterback Vernon Adams during the game, which helped the TCU defense get the stops necessary for the comeback. Oregon sophomore running back Royce Freeman rushed for 130 yards on 26 carries with three touchdowns, but Adams' backup, Jeff Lockie, completed just 7 of 15 passes for 36 yards after Adams' injury exit. Backup Oregon center Doug Brennan, also playing as an injury substitute, delivered several errant shotgun snaps to hamper the UO offense as well.

Horned Frogs kicker Jaden Oberkrom converted a 22-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime tied at 31. TCU tied the record for a comeback in a bowl game with Texas Tech, which came back to beat Minnesota 44-41 in the 2006 Insight.com Bowl from a 38-7 deficit.
