McCoy fires back at Chip Kelly, turns down hand shake

Print

Don't expect that pregame hand shake between Chip Kelly and LeSean McCoy, after all.

Earlier Wednesday, Kelly told reporters that he called McCoy several times to try to talk out the differences they might have had after Kelly traded McCoy to Buffalo, but the calls went unanswered. Kelly said he would welcome the chance to say hello when the Bills face off Sunday in Philadelphia.

Then McCoy had his turn to speak with the media. Needless to say, he doesn't feel the same.

A sampling of McCoy's responses to questions about Kelly:

"Chip don't owe me nothing. I don't owe him anything."

On why he wouldn't pick up the phone when Kelly called: "He can't say s---."

On if he'll shake Kelly's hand: "He can't shake s---."

McCoy went on to add that he will talk to his former teammates and owner Jeffrey Lurie, one of the few people he did talk to after the trade went down. The star running back added that he never had a good relationship with Kelly to begin with, a rift that was unquestionably exacerbated when McCoy was sent up north for linebacker Kiko Alonso.

As we noted earlier, this is understandable to a point. Trades can rip up lives and hurt feelings. They can leave scars. Plus, McCoy isn't the type to back down, and he's been asked about Kelly all day.

All of this combines to give us a fantastic, yet meaningless lead in to a game that has some very serious playoff implications. The joke ultimately will be on McCoy if the Eagles win, but it's interesting that the game is being played at the same time Kelly is having trouble with another star running back.
