Bears waive Jimmy Clausen, add David Fales to roster

It's over for Jimmy Clausen in Chicago.

The Bears announced that Jay Cutler's backup was waived on Monday to make room for fellow quarterback David Fales, who was added to the active roster off the practice squad.

Every game, all season

Coach John Fox told reporters that another team had shown interest in Fales, prompting Chicago to elevate the signal-caller who was drafted by the team out of San Jose State in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Our guess: Ravens play-caller and former Bears coach Marc Trestman might have inquired about his former pupil after watching Joe Flacco go down with a season-ending knee injury on Sunday.

Either way, the Bears are opting for the developmental Fales over Clausen, who showed next to nothing in a depressing Week 3 loss to the Seahawks.

On the bright side, Cutler -- normally a maddening passer -- has shown signs of growth under play-caller Adam Gase, stringing together quality games over the past month for a 4-6 club still on the fringe of the NFC's playoff picture.
