Jim Harbaugh has made it clear that it's never a good time to ask him about whether he might be interested in another coaching job, and that especially includes a postgame news conference immediately after a double-overtime win over Indiana.
"Stop yourself right there. Just stop. ... No comment," Harbaugh said when asked about a possible vacancy with the Indianapolis Colts, according to MLive Media Group's Nick Baumgardner.
This comes just a few weeks after Harbaugh said it was disrespectful to connect him to NFL jobs.
After a bumpy exit from the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh landed at his alma mater with one of the most lucrative contracts in college football, and his return to the NFL doesn't figure to happen anytime soon. Especially if he develops a knack for winning close games, as he did Saturday against the Hoosiers, 48-41 in double overtime, and on Oct. 31 against Minnesota (29-26).
Interestingly, there have been reports of strife between the Colts' coaching staff and front office, similar to those that followed Harbaugh's 49ers before his departure after last season.
The Wolverines outlasted Indiana Saturday thanks to quarterback Jake Rudock, who fired six touchdown passes, including one to force overtime with no time remaining in regulation and two more in overtime to keep UM alive in the Big Ten race. Rudock completed 33 of 46 passes for 440 yards and added 64 yards on the ground for 504 total yards on the day.
"If Jake doesn't play the way he does, we don't have a chance," Harbaugh told reporters.
Rudock was locked in with wide receiver Jehu Chesson, who caught 10 passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns.
Indiana held a 34-27 lead with just 2:52 remaining, but Michigan put together an eight-play, 66-yard touchdown drive led by Rudock to force overtime.
