Mallett misses Texans' team flight, blames traffic

Ryan Mallett's season continues to implode.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the quarterback missed the Houston Texans' charter flight to Miami and had to fly commercial to join the team, per a source informed of the situation. Mallett told reporters after the game that he missed his flight after getting stuck in traffic.

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain first reported the news.

You'll recall that after Mallett was passed over for the starting job during training camp, he promptly overslept when his alarm didn't go off because his phone apparently "shut off."

Mallet insisted after the mishap it wouldn't happen again.

Missing a team flight is not a good sign for the quarterback who appeared to be sulking when re-benched in favor Brian Hoyer in Week 5.

Mallett has started four games this season, but is currently the backup. Barring injury, it doesn't appear he'll get the gig back anytime soon.
