Bills ink Billy Cundiff to battle Dan Carpenter

Four games into the new season, the Buffalo Bills are shaking up the depth chart at kicker.

The team announced Wednesday that veteran Billy Cundiff was signed to the team's 53-man roster, putting the heat on embattled veteran Dan Carpenter.

Carpenter whiffed on a 30-yard field goal in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Giants, putting his roster spot in danger. Kickoff specialist Jordan Gay was released to make room for Cundiff, who can handle those duties but remains far from reliable as a field-goal machine.

Cundiff, 35, missed a rash of game-crushing kicks for the Browns last season and remains a cross-your-fingers performer beyond 30 yards. In a season full of gloomy kicker performances, Cundiff only adds to the drama.

The Bills also signed former Raiders wideout Denarius Moore after cutting receiver Marcus Thigpen. Moore provides depth at best behind a lineup of pass-catchers led by Percy Harvin, Robert Woods and the oft-injured Sammy Watkins.
