Lions and Seahawks will meet for first time on MNF

Will this week's MNF game produce epic air and ground performances like their past matchups?

The Seattle Seahawks host the Detroit Lions at CenturyLink Field on Monday night. While the Seahawks look to collect their seventh consecutive home win and 23rd in 25 games, the Lions would just like to finally get that elusive first "W" of the season.

This is a comprehensive and contemporary historical look at the Lions-Seahawks all-time series and Monday night performances.

Monday Night Football history lesson

All-time records on Monday Night Football:

One notable passing performance in series: Seahawks quarterback Jeff Kemp threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns in a 37-14 win over the Lions at the Pontiac Silverdome during the 1987 season. On the receiving end of three of those touchdowns was Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Largent, who finished the game with 261 yards receiving.

One notable rushing performance in series: The Lions edged the Seahawks, 17-16, during a 1999 meeting at the Pontiac Silverdome. While Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders finished the game with 134 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, Seattle running back Lamar Smith had 148 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries.

One famous MNF game

Lions: Two of the game's all-time great running backs squared off on a mid-September evening at Texas Stadium -- in sweet throwback uniforms, no less. Emmitt Smith rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown, but it was Barry Sanders who starred in the Lions' overtime upset of the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. Sanders carried the ball 40 times for 194 yards in the thrilling win.

Seahawks: #FailMary holds a special place in the history of Monday Night Football. The Seahawks defeated the Green Bay Packers on a desperation Hail Mary pass that was intercepted caught for a touchdown by Golden Tate for a 14-12 win in 2012.
