Hakeem Nicks, Wes Welker work out for Giants

The Giants' practice facility played host to some big-name pass catching targets on Tuesday.

Former Patriots and Broncos star Wes Welker, and former Giants standout Hakeem Nicks both were on hand to work out for the team, a source familiar with the situation told Around The NFL.

Former Redskins H-back and tight end Chris Cooley also was there.

Every game, all season

ESPN first reported Nicks' and Welker's visit.

While the move could just be some simple tire-kicking, it also gives off the sense that the Giants are not entirely thrilled with their receiver depth chart underneath Victor Cruz, Odell Beckham and Rueben Randle. The team cut Preston Parker a week ago and attempted to increase Dwayne Harris' role in a win over Washington on Thursday.

Welker, who thrived in the Patriots' system, is not the first of Bill Belichick's former slot receivers the Giants have had an eye on. The team also worked out Julian Edelman back in 2013. This is believed to be Welker's first workout since he parted ways with the Broncos.

Nicks, however, serves as the most interesting guest at the Quest Diagnostics Center. Just a few years ago around this time, he was coming off a partial offseason holdout. The former first-round pick seemed like a shoo-in for a long-term deal but ended up faltering down the stretch of his Giants career.

Might Tuesday change his fortunes in Blue and White?

If nothing else, he'll feel right at home during the throwback party.
