Everything went right for Scooby Wright in 2014. This season, nothing's gone the Wright way.
The star Arizona linebacker, just after returning from knee surgery, will be sidelined with a right foot sprain sustained in the Wildcats' 56-30 loss to UCLA on Saturday.
Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez said Wright will be out for "several weeks."
"If (his foot) was broken, which was a concern, we could have gotten a medical redshirt if we applied for it," Rodriguez said, per azdesertswarm.com. "(Arizona players) Jamar Allah and Anthony Lopez suffered foot sprains in camp, and they returned in a few weeks, and with the way Scooby attacks his rehab, hopefully we'll have him back in a couple of weeks."
Wright made 163 tackles to lead the NCAA last year, with 14 sacks, and won three of the top individual awards in college football: the Lombardi, Nagurski and Bednarik Awards. He was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and entered his junior year with high expectations. He made only one tackle in Arizona's season opener before a knee injury forced him to undergo surgery for a lateral meniscus repair. He returned Saturday to make seven tackles against the Bruins, but is now dealing with a new injury as Arizona faces Stanford, Oregon State and Colorado in the coming weeks.
The junior is considered one of the top linebackers in the college game.
