Jim Harbaugh earned his first win over a ranked opponent as Michigan coach on Saturday with a resounding 31-0 rout of BYU that improved the Wolverines to 3-1 on the season. The former San Francisco 49ers coach lost his first game to Utah, but hasn't lost since. The Cougars (2-2) had been ranked No. 22, and Michigan dominated from the outset in taking a 31-0 lead into the half.
Quarterback Jake Rudock was steady if not spectacular, completing 14 of 25 passes for 194 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.
"He's seeing things, having fun and letting it rip. That's all I ask him to do," Harbaugh said after the game.
The game's most spectacular play came from wide receiver Amara Darboh, who caught four passes for 57 yards and a touchdown, and did his best Odell Beckham Jr. impersonation here:
Just this week, Darboh became an official United States citizen. He moved to the U.S. at age 7, having lost both his parents in war-torn Sierra Leone, and later became a four-star wide receiver recruit and the Wolverines' top receiving target.
Michigan running back De'Veon Smith rushed 16 times for 125 yards and a touchdown, but left the game with a foot injury in the third quarter.
Harbaugh's Wolverines now enter Big Ten play, visiting Maryland next week.
