Coach Bruce Arians was quick to dump cold water on all the premature praise aimed at his 2-0 Cardinals.
"You ain't (bleep)!" Arians told his players at the start of Wednesday's team meeting, according to quarterback Carson Palmer, via the team's official website.
Arians went on tell his players they should be wary of the symbolic pats on the back they've received, saying critics and others are simply "looking for a soft spot where to stick the knife."
It's another reminder of why Arians remains one of our favorite coaches. An old-school leader uninterested in spewing nonsense, Arizona's head man doesn't want a repeat of last year's late-season swoon.
Cardinals fans have nothing to worry about if Palmer stays upright, with the veteran passer playing some of the best football of his career on the heels of last year's season-ending knee injury.
Averaging a league-best 39.5 points per game, Arizona's talented flock of skill players are fully at home in Arians' time-tested scheme, pumping out yards through the air and running the ball more effectively than in 2014.
Still, Arians is right. Two wins means nothing, especially in a rough-and-tumble NFC West that figures to boil down to the end. The message will soften -- some -- if they earn another trip to the postseason.
