Derek Carr's Week 2 status for the Oakland Raiders looks positive.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the second-year quarterback suffered a bruised thumb in Sunday's ugly 33-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, per a pair of sources informed of Carr's situation. However, the Raiders feel there's a good chance Carr could play Sunday after receiving good news from Monday's MRI results, a team source said.
Carr's ability to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens hinges on the swelling going down in the hand this week.
The Raiders have been in touch with veteran Christian Ponder, who remains in the Oakland area after spending camp with the Silver and Black, per Rapoport, but they have no plans to add a quarterback at this time. Â On Sunday, backup Matt McGloin took over to throw for a sub-Gabbert Zone 4.6 yards per attempt for a lowly QBR of 29.8.
Week 1 couldn't have gone worse for a Raiders squad that rolled into the season with increased hope. That sense of possibility centered around a cast of young players -- Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper, Latavius Murray and Carr. The Raiders need to keep their young quarterback on the field to turn this ship around.
