Aldon Smith charged with 3 misdemeanors, arraignment Oct. 6

On the same day it was announced that he had signed with the Oakland Raiders, Aldon Smith was charged with three misdemeanors stemming from an arrest by Santa Clara police that occurred last month.

Smith was charged with 1) DUI with a prior conviction and refusal to submit to a chemical test, 2) hit-and-run with property damage and 3) vandalism under $400, according to the Santa Clara District Attorney's Office. His arraignment is set for Oct. 6.

The timing of the announcement was unrelated to Smith's signing with the Raiders, Public Communications Officer Sean Webby told NFL Media.
