Cassel: Bills indicate they'll keep three quarterbacks

The feeling of late in Buffalo is that the Bills might not keep all three of their quarterbacks.

With Tyrod Taylor named the starter and EJ Manuel -- the former first-round pick -- piecing together a promising finish to the preseason, whispers surfaced that the team was embroiled in "internal debate" over whether or not to release veteran Matt Cassel.

Cassel, on Friday, hinted otherwise.

"I don't know if they want to go into depth about what the conversation was about, who's going to be No. 2 or No. 3," Cassel said, per ESPN's Mike Rodak. "But every indication was made that we're probably gonna keep three quarterbacks, and that's all I can go off of right now."

It's not a terrible idea considering that Taylor has yet to start an NFL game. He displayed mobility and a live arm during the preseason, but Taylor's success came against defenses that barely game-planned for Buffalo's offense. Cassel is no longer starting material, but coaches might want to keep him around to tutor their young starter behind the scenes.

Bottom line: Until the Bills see one of these signal-callers emerge in games that matter, keeping all three makes sense. We still expect to see each of them play in 2015.
