The highly anticipated reunion between the New York Giants and Stevie Brown has come into fruition.
The team announced Monday that it has signed Brown.
NFL Media's Kimberly Jones reported on Saturday that the safety would be in New York on Sunday to take a physical with the Giants. Giants coach Tom Coughlin confirmed the free agent was coming in for physical.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Brown was mulling four offers, per a source who has spoken to the player.
New York was in dire need of safety help. The Giants have lost four safeties is a span of two weeks.
The Houston Texans decided to part ways with Brown on Friday after it was determined that he was squarely on the roster bubble. The safety signed with the team in May.
After Brown's release from Houston, it was widely considered that New York would come calling, and Brown would happily pick up the phone. The sixth-year safety had a breakout 2012 season with the Giants, where he had 76 tackles and eight interceptions. However, Brown suffered a torn ACL in the preseason the following year and never captured the same success. In 2014, a year removed from his ACL injury, Brown had half as many tackles (38) and no interceptions for the G-Men.
Brown is not the same safety that he once was due to injury, but the Giants were in desperate need of some help at the position. It will be interesting to see how productive he can be in New York.
