Brandon McManus has won the kicking job in Denver.
At least that is the immediate takeaway from the Evan Mathis signing, as the corresponding move was to release kicker Connor Barth, McManus' top competition.
McManus kicked in Denver for most of last season, coming over in a trade via the New York Giants. At the time, he was a placeholder for then-suspended kicker Matt Prater.
Barth was signed toward the end of the 2014 season after McManus struggled by converting only 69.2 percent of his field goals.
Still, it didn't take long for Barth to find a new NFL home -- the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Thursday that they have signed the seventh-year pro. The deal is for two years at a maximum value of $2.75 million, a source informed of the agreement told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
