Rex Grossman to work out for Atlanta Falcons

Michael Vick isn't the only weatherworn signal-caller angling for one more shot in the NFL.

While Vick is headed to Pittsburgh to meet with the Steelers, the Falcons are hosting Rex Grossman for a workout in Atlanta, the team confirmed Tuesday.

The connection makes plenty of sense with ardent Grossman supporter Kyle Shanahan lodged with the club as its offensive coordinator. The two teamed together with the Texans (2009), Redskins (2010 to 2013) and, last summer, with the Browns.

"I loved Rex because he was so tough," Shanahan recently told ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure. "Rex would hang in there, get the crap knocked out of him every week. He never flinched. He'd hang in there and take all the hits. He didn't mind the pressure on him."

About to turn 35, Grossman has a shot to make Atlanta's roster if signed. The team's starting spot is locked in with Matt Ryan, but the Falcons aren't thrilled with their backups.

T.J. Yates and Sean Renfree have failed to move the needle this summer, bringing Grossman closer than ever to newfound employment.
