Bucs' Akeem Spence facing one-game suspension

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Akeem Spence will have to wait an extra week to begin his 2015 season.

The 2013 fourth-round pick, who had a career-high three sacks last year, is facing a suspension for the first game of the season for violating the league's policy on substances of abuse, the team confirmed Monday.

Spence vowed in a tweet Monday that he would return better than ever.

Spence was already placed on the team's physically unable to perform list with a back issue.

At this point, the Buccaneers should get along just fine. Their front of Jacquies Smith, Gerald McCoy, Clinton McDonald and George Johnson seems relatively set for now.

Spence will have to work his way back into a crowded rotation when he returns.
