The Washington Redskins look to be without cornerback Bashaud Breeland. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports Breeland suffered an injury to his MCL on Friday and will miss the rest of camp.
Prior to sustaining the injury, the NFL announced the second-year player has been suspended for one game without pay for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. Breeland received a misdemeanor citation for possession of marijuana in August 2014.
The Redskins open the season at home against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Sept. 13. Breeland will be eligible to return on Monday, Sept. 14, barring any further setbacks from his injury.
Breeland produced a rollercoaster rookie season, displaying flashes of playmaking ability, but too often struggled as a part of a Redskins secondary that got burned with regularity in 2014. He ended the season with 15 starts, 66 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Breeland was slotted to battle DeAngelo Hall -- returning from injury -- for the starting job opposite free agent acquisition Chris Culliver. Washington hopes the young corner will make a jump in Year 2 as they attempt to solidify a shaky secondary under new coordinator Joe Barry.
