Ken Whisenhunt on Titans' QB order: 'After Marcus?'

If even a sliver of doubt festered in the recesses of the minds of Tennessee Titans fans about whether Marcus Mariota would start Day 1, coach Ken Whisenhunt erased it Thursday.

Asked about the Titans' quarterback pecking order, Whisenhunt replied:

It's clear that Mariota is the starter as training camp kicked off Thursday and will be when the Titans face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to open the season.

Sorry, Zach Mettenberger fanatics. It's Mariota's job.

The No. 2 overall pick in the draft has progressed well during offseason workouts, according to Whisenhunt, but the team doesn't want to overload the rookie -- including too much off-the-field marketing as the face of the franchise.

Some other notes from Whisenhunt:

  1. Justin Hunter is at camp and after being arrested earlier this month on an assault charge. Whisenhunt said Hunter will be on the field for practice Friday and the team will support him as the legal process plays out.
  1. The coach said he would have a limited package of plays for rookie receiver Dorial Green-Beckham as training camp opens. DGB was limited this offseason during OTAs, nursing a hamstring injury.
