Chargers, Raiders owners talk with L.A. officials

Chargers owner Dean Spanos and Raiders owner Mark Davis met with Mayor Eric Garcetti and other political figures in Los Angeles on Tuesday to promote their plan for a joint stadium deal in Carson.

Garcetti spokesman Jeff Millman confirmed the meeting to the Los Angeles Times and said the mayor "would welcome a team anywhere in the Los Angeles area."

"While Mayor Garcetti frequently meets with companies looking to do business in Los Angeles, we are mindful that the Chargers, Raiders and Rams are still actively discussing stadium deals in their current cities and the NFL has not yet approved a team moving," Millman continued.

NFL Media's Steve Wyche and Albert Breer reported last week that the NFL has initiated the process to secure temporary stadiums in Southern California for 2016. Among the considered venues are L.A. Memorial Coliseum, the Rose Bowl, Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium and the StubHub Center.

The Chargers/Raiders joint project in Carson is estimated to have a 2019 completion date, while Rams owner Stan Kroenke's proposed Inglewood project is targeted for completion in 2018. The league has not put a deadline on the temporary stadium proposals, but would like them to be presented to the owners at the special meeting on Los Angeles, set for August in Chicago.
