Sam Barrington: Everybody wants to crown me

Sam Barrington has been billed this year as the solution to the Green Bay Packers' inside linebacker woes of the Dom Capers era.

One person not buying into the hype: Sam Barrington.

"Everybody wants to seem to crown me for no reason," Barrington said, via the Packers' official website.

Perhaps that premature crowning is related to Barrington's reference to the Green Bay unit as "my defense" this offseason.

Barrington entered the starting lineup down the stretch last season and proceeded to reel off double-digit tackles in three of the last four regular-season games, an emergence he has labeled a "semi-performance."

"You could see him grow every week," Capers said. "As a signal caller, he'd make his calls with confidence. Once he recognized something, he could go from point A to point B. He's got some quick twitch to him."

With Barrington calling the shots, All-Pro Clay Matthewsmoonlighting on the inside and rookie Jake Ryan onboard for depth, a long-running Packers weakness could be a strength in 2015.
