Free-agent RB Chris Ogbonnaya announces retirement

After six years in the NFL, Chris Ogbonnaya is calling it quits. The free-agent running back announced his retirement Friday on Instagram.

"It is with great thankfulness to God and appreciation of my family, coaches, and fans that I announce my retirement from football," Ogbonnaya wrote. "It has been an absolute privilege to play this game that I love, and I look forward to my continued involvement in the future."

Originally a seventh-round pick of the Rams in 2009, Ogbonnaya was last with the Giants, who released him in May. The 29-year-old also played for the Texans, Panthers and Browns, seeing the most playing time in Cleveland, where the change-of-pace back appeared in 42 games while rushing for 604 yards off 130 carries.

Ogbonnaya's career 4.5 yards per carry helped him find work as a passing-down option who also caught 96 balls for 714 yards over 53 games.
