Lions OC: Bell's condition a concern for training camp

Lions running back Joique Bell hasn't seen the field during OTAs as he recovers from offseason surgery on his knee and Achilles.

Bell is scheduled to be ready for the start of training camp, but offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi worries the layoff could affect the running back.

"Really, I think your biggest concern is just, is he going to be able to get in the shape that you wanted to at the beginning of camp," Lombardi said, via the Lions site. "But we'll be careful with him and smart and ramp him up as we go."

Earlier this week, the Lions brought in Ben Tate and Daniel Thomas for workouts, an indication the team is looking to add options in the case Bell isn't ready.

Bell led the Lions in rushing last season, finishing with a career-high 860 yards and seven touchdowns. If healthy, he's the favorite to serve as the team's primary ball-carrier in a backfield that includes rookie Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick.
