Report: Alex Boone to attend 49ers' veteran minicamp

Finally, some decent news for the 49ers.

Alex Boone, the veteran guard who skipped last year's offseason training activities in search of a new contract, will be at the team's veteran minicamp, according to a report from the Sacramento Bee.

The 28-year-old is one of the better interior linemen in the game and, despite not being completely happy with the re-worked deal that got him on the field in 2014, will at least show up for head coach Jim Tomsula this week.

Although none of us are in Boone's head, it's hard to imagine a player wanting to sling another dagger into the heart of a team that has lost so much already this offseason, especially if Boone earns a promotion to right tackle in the wake of Anthony Davis' retirement.

The 49ers looked to be an unstoppable powerhouse for years to come under Jim Harbaugh. Now, they've been drained of almost all of their top talent.

Now, though, one of their best remaining players -- perhaps with more leverage than ever -- will at least show face as the team tries to pick up the pieces.

We won't know what Boone's intentions are long-term, but we do know that a lot of people in Santa Clara will be breathing easier this week.
