Allen Iverson won one MVP award and was selected to 11 All-Star games during his NBA career.

Allen Iverson as a quarterback at Notre Dame and with the Dallas Cowboys? That was his ultimate sports dream, not playing college basketball at Georgetown and eventually becoming one of the most successful guards in NBA history.

"He was a far better football player than a basketball player," Gary Moore, Iverson's mentor and longtime manager, told Bleacher Report in a post published Thursday. "Far, far better. We talked about Notre Dame all the time. That was our dream. We watched the Fighting Irish on TV every Saturday.

"He was never supposed to be in the NBA. We were focused on the NFL. He should be in Canton as we speak."

Iverson was a high school quarterback of some renown at Hampton (Va.) Bethel, and he was the state's player of the year in football and basketball as a high school junior. Iverson said he was thinking of continuing his athletic career as a Notre Dame football player at that time.

"I loved those gold helmets," he told Bleacher Report.

But legal issues ensued, and he didn't play high school sports as a senior. By that time, it was apparent that basketball was his future, and he headed to Georgetown.
