Report: Bears decline option on Shea McClellin

Shea McClellin will be tasked with changing perceptions in 2015.

Bears general manager Ryan Pace said Wednesday that Chicago will not pick up the fifth-year option on McClellin, according to the Chicago Tribune.

McClellin, the 19th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, has failed to make an impact across his first three seasons in the league. It's not for a lack of trying on Chicago's part: The Bears drafted McClellin to play defensive end in their former 4-3 scheme. They shifted him to strong-side linebacker last season, but he still failed to produce. McClellin has just 7.5 sacks in 40 career games.

New Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio runs a 3-4 scheme. Bears coach John Fox said last month they were going to try McClellin both inside and outside at linebacker.
