Wednesday was the final day for prospects to visit teams before the 2015 NFL Draft, and some racked up an impressive number of frequent flyer miles between stops.
One such player is Alabama's Landon Collins, who visited the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Collins was the only safety to visit the Steelers over the past two weeks, the report said.
Pre-draft visits could mean a number of things, but Collins being the only safety the Steelers hosted is notable because the team needs plenty of help in rebuilding its secondary after losing Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu to retirement.
Collins is generally considered the top safety in the draft but was recently moved by NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock to No. 2 at the position behind Arizona State's Damarious Randall after some further study.
Projections on where Collins will land are all over the board, but he appears to be a first-round pick and could go anywhere from No. 20 overall to the Eagles to No. 32 to the New England Patriots.
The Steelers hold the No. 22 overall pick, so they would be right in the range of Collins' projection, and he would certainly check off a team need, given his position.
The Tribune-Review also reported that three other prospects had recent visits with the Steelers: Kansas cornerback Dexter McDonald, Mississippi State defensive end Preston Smith, and Tennessee-Chattanooga outside linebacker Davis Tull. They are expected to be second- or third-day picks.
NFL Media analyst Brian Baldinger's mock draft forecasts the Steelers taking Collins in the first round. The other five mock drafts have the team selecting a cornerback.
