The Detroit Lions are bringing in one of the draft's top offensive linemen on the final day prospects can visit team facilities.
LSU offensive tackle La'el Collins is visiting the team, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, and the Lions -- who pick 23rd overall -- would seem to be in the hunt for a rookie lineman who can start right away.
Collins (6-foot-4 1/2, 305 pounds) was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Tigers, but some analysts feel he is better-suited for the right side or even guard at the next level. Regardless of the position, the Lions should be interested.
If the Lions like Collins as a left tackle, they could move incumbent Riley Reiff to the right side. Or they could leave Reiff on the left side and plug Collins in on the right side. They also could plug Collins in at guard, where, frankly, there doesn't seem to be a viable starting candidate other than Larry Warford right now.
While there are holes along the offensive line, Detroit also has big needs at defensive tackle and cornerback.
The six NFL Media analysts who have posted mock drafts are equally split among an offensive lineman and a defensive lineman for the Lions' 23rd pick. Five of the six have Collins off the board when the Lions make their selection.
